Hey,
Thanks for checking out my fitness page!
I just wanted to share with you my thoughts on warming up before exercising. I think that it is really important to physically and mentally prepare the body for the exercise that it is about to do.
A warm up should involve a pulse raiser to increase your heart rate and to start to warm up the body. It should also involve some mobility exercises or dynamic stretching to warm up your muscles and tendons. Especially for Pilates but it is useful for any type of exercise to include a set up to remind your body where it should be, to practise the correct breathing technique and to think about engaging your deep core muscles which stabilise your spine. It is important to do a ‘sport specific’ warm up even as part of your main workout, this usually includes doing the same or similar exercise to what you are about to do but to do it at the lowest level or with the lightest weight.
Check out the PDF below for a copy of the warm that is recommended in my 8 week strength and flexibility Pilates program. This should give you a good idea of what to include in your warm up.
It might seem quite long and if you are struggling with time you may try to convince yourself that it is not important. Doing this simple warm up will help you to get the most of your workout and it could even help to reduce the chance of you getting injured during your workout. Give it a go and see what you think 😀
I hope that you found this useful.
